EvilUSF Occupational Sessions (1996-7)
Equipment: Various Pianos, Marimba, Frame Drum, Kurzweil K2000 RS, Alesis MMT-8 Sequencer,
IBM Aptiva PC (Win 95) using Cool Edit '96
Description: The EvilUSF Sessions represents a time period where Toby and I would meet out in the music lab at USF, a place for which Toby had a special key to access marimbas, etc. We recorded piano and other percussive instruments, along with our incidental conversations. At home, between Orlando and Tampa, we would also record various unusual drums. These sessions include a little of both, plus some random experiments done with Cool Edit '96, when all of this digital recording was very new to us. Most source material for drums comes from tapes, but we occassionally were able to use a portable DAT recorder. I then sampled various live or tape drums that either Toby or myself performed (with the K2000) and then reperformed them on keyboard, sequencing loosely, with a foundation of quantized electronics and other drums. Unfortunately, many of these recordings were only saved to tape, and there is no clear way to reproduce them for digital purposes other than to sample the cassettes themselves.
